Help! Follow Up

Working out at midnight is not fun.

Especially when you try Insanity, and fail, horribly.

If you started reading my blog post-Insanity, Insanity is a workout program that I was doing for quite some time before I got pregnant with Lily.  It's really hard.  It's mostly cardio.  I was in the best shape of my life, without even eating very healthy foods.

So last night I thought I'd give it a go.  I got about 2 minutes into it before I could no longer breathe and I thought I was going to have a heart attack.  I was red-faced, but not very sweaty.

Side note: Did you know that the better shape you are in, the more you sweat while working out?  Your body gets more efficient at cooling itself off, thus producing more sweat.

Any, back to what I was saying... The warm up?  Come on, the first two minutes are jogging, jumping jacks, heismans, etc.  Basically jogging stuffs.

So, after the warmup that I failed at I did the stretching, which felt nice.

Then I showered and went to bed.

Woke up with awesome bed head!  Short hair does that.

I will do it again tonight, though!  My calves are nicely sore, and I had more energy today than I do most days.  I also peed a lot more today, probably because I downed 40oz of water between the hours of 5pm and 12:30am last night.

I'm embarrassed to say that I rarely drink plain water.  Like ever.

So... this is a start.

Help!

I've gained 5 pounds in the past week.  This is not good, especially since I was already 10 pounds over my comfortable, pre-prego weight.  I never seemed to lose that 10lbs after Lily was born.

I need to exercise, but when Lily takes a nap I'd rather clean, do laundry or read scriptures.  But actually I mostly read scriptures, and then play on the Internet.

I used to go on walks with Lily, I think I'll start that up again.  Even so, that doesn't do much. My body doesn't really respond unless I torture it.

Well, I just got done working, so I guess I'll go put on some workout clothes and see what happens....?  Working out at midnight could be fun.

Scriptures

I finished reading the Doctrine and Covenants last week, so I continued into the Pearl of Great Price. Today I read Moses chapter 4 (and more) and one verse struck me:
22 - Unto the woman, I, the Lord God, said: I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception. In sorrow thou shalt bring forth children, and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
This was said to Eve after she ate the forbidden fruit. It made me wonder, is childbirth painful because of Eve? And how does that work if we believe men (and women) are punished for their own sins and not Adam's (or Eve's) transgression?
So, I did a little reasearch online and found the following article. It's interesting, but it doesn't really answer my questions.
Any insight from you would be greatly appreciated!

Let's Say a Prayer

This is what Lily does when it's time to say a prayer... She moved before I could get a picture, but she folds her arms and bows her head.

Yes, we do have the cutest and smartest baby in all the land. :-)

Touching

I live near 7200 S, so that is the exit I use. If you go west, and under the overpass, there are usually homeless or needy people on every single corner where cars pass, holding signs, asking for help, looking very dirty.  To be honest, they make me extremely uncomfortable; I don't like to make eye contact.  I assume they all take my money and use it on drugs. I also assume their situations are mostly of their own accord, and handing them money will only make the situation worse.

However, today there was a man and a woman on the corner right where I get off the freeway.  His sign said simply, "Prayers help too."  It touched my heart.  If I had any cash or any food with me, he would have received it all.  I honestly have never thought about praying for the homeless that I see practically every day on those corners.

Sleep

Lily didn't want to go to bed last night, so she stayed up until 10pm.

Normally when that happens, she still wakes up at her normal time, which is between 9 and 10am.  This time she didn't wake up... like at all. I had to wake her up! I finally did so at 12:30pm.

Wow, thanks Lily for letting me sleep as long as I wanted!

And then she still took a nap from about 4pm until 5:30pm.

I love my little sleeper.

ipsy Glam Bags!

I just started a subscription for ipsy!  I'm so so so excited!

I recently heard about a few different beauty boxes where they send you a bunch of beauty product samples for a small fee each month.  After looking into it more, it seemed totally up my alley.

I compared several different ones, but ipsy looks the best for my personal taste and budget.

It's $10 a month, automatic billing.  I can cancel anytime. I get a bag of goodies delivered to my door (free shipping)!  And the bag the goodies come in is cute too (as seen in photos from the ones they've sent out previously.).

Here's what ipsy says on their site:

ipsy is a beauty community in which ipsters can learn new beauty tricks and participate along with their favorite beauty Stylists in monthly looks. By subscribing to Glam Bags, you will receive 4 to 5 sample or full-sized beauty (makeup, skincare, haircare, and nailcare) products each month, that let you try new products for fun.

By receiving the Glam Bag, you’ll be able to participate along with the Stylists at home with the same products that they will be showcasing. You are also encouraged to create and share your own Looks and videos on our site, and participate in weekly Look Challenges!

Membership to the ipsy community is 100% free. The cost to receive the Glam Bag is only $10 a month (or $110 for a full year's 12 Glam Bags). Shipping is always free in the US! Shipping in Canada is USD $4.95 per month.

I get extra free goodies if I refer people. So, if you're interested, please use my link!

Bunko

Bunko is a dice game that you play with 12 people.  There are three tables of four people.  You take turns rolling three dice, trying to get "points".  Round 1, you only get points if you roll ones or three of a kind of any number. Round 2 is is twos, etc.  Round 7 starts back with ones again.  If you get three of a kind of the number you're on (three 1s at once in round 1) that is a bunko, and the round ends.  You can also get bunko and end the round by rolling 21 points.

I love my bunko group. I've been playing with them for 6 years now!  I'm hosting tomorrow and I hope it will be the best one I've ever done.  I am SO EXCITED about the prizes I got, I want to keep them all!!

Each person on the team pays $10.  So, since there are 12 people, that's $120 dollars.  The prizes go like so:

Most bunkos: $30 prize
High score: $20 prize
Most zeros: $13 prize
Lowest score: $10 prize
Second highest score: $10 prize
Last bunko (the last person to get a bunko): $7 prize
Everyone else: $5 prize.

So you pay $10 dollars, but you don't always get a $10 prize.  However, you do get dinner, dessert, candy, soda pop, and a good night out with the girls!

I ordered the prizes online this time from Ulta, which, if you haven't been there... it's my version of heaven.  An entire store filled with makeup, skin care, hair care... and all sorts of magical items.  They also have stuff for men.

I was going to actually go to Ulta to get the prizes, but online had such amazing deals, I couldn't pass them up, and everyone gets more prizes because of the sweet deals I got!

$30 prize
L.A. Lady Set by Stila.  This comes with two Stila eye shadows, a Convertible Eye Color (an all-in-one eye liner, eye shadow and smudger),  and a Smudge Crayon Eye Primer + Shadow + Liner, and a Cherry Mint Lip Glaze. They also get a Shimmer Strips by Physician's Formula in Nude. (It's an Urban Decay Naked palette wannabe, but I've heard it's pretty good!)

$20 prize
Mariposa palette by Urban Decay. They also get one Night Club eyeshadow palette by Essence in Already Midnight?  I'm really excited about the Mariposa platte!  It was on sale, online only, for $15!  If I don't win this, I might buy one for myself! :-)

$13 prize
Deluxe Eyeshadow Box by Urban Decay. This comes with a little trial of their Primer Potion.  $13?  Awesome!  It was on sale, online only.  Again, I might want to buy one for myself.

Two $10 prizes
These are the Shimmer Strips by Physician's formula. I have one more in Nude, and another in Smoky. I'm also giving them a bottle of Shimmering Facial Whip by ELF.  It's really cheap ($1), but I've heard it's comparable to High Beam highlighter by Element ($26). Some people even like it better, so for $1 I think it's worth a try.

$7 prize
Smoky eyeshadow palette by NYX, and some ELF Shimmering Facial Whip.

Six $5 prizes
More Night Club palettes by Essence. I have more in Already Midnight? and also some in Dance Til Dawn. I'm also giving them some Shimmering Facial Whip.

I love makeup.

For dinner we have having Hawaiian Haystacks.  I found a great recipe that doesn't use cream of whatever soup. It's so delicious! Then I'm making my favorite No Bake cookies.

Bring on bunko!  I can't wait to see what I win!

Hanging From a Cliff

My sisters used to sing this song that went like this:

Cliff Hanger, hanging from a cliff.  ...And that's why he's called Cliff Hanger!

It made me laugh so much!  I'm not sure why.

Have you ever really wanted to announce something but couldn't?  Agh. It's killing me!  Soon, my friends. Soon I will tell you all.

No, I'm not pregnant. I wish I were.  But it's life changing news.  For me, at least.

Cliff hanger!

Noooo!

Ugh. My baby is walking.

I'm sad. I don't want her to grow up. She needs to stay my baby.

Maybe we'll get video proof sometime.

Me + Electronics =

I'm trying to be better about saying my prayers. So, last night as I was kneeling down in the dark, I knelt right on to my Nook Color!

Of course it made me upset. It also made me not want to pray. So I sat there wondering why bad things happen to good people. Then I prayed anyway. And after my prayer, I checked the screen again, hoping for a miracle. Nope, no miracle.

For the record, I keep the Nook on my nightstand. Lily must have played with it or something.

So now I don't know what to do. How much will it be to get it fixed? Would it be worth it? Should I just buy a new one? If I do can they transfer all my Harry Potter books, and my scriptures, and my other books, and my games to the new device? If I don't repair it or replace it, can I get all my stuff off of it and on my computer somehow?

Why am I so bad with electronics?

Why I Love Type 1s

They just make me feel good!  They make me feel like life is party and that we shouldn't take things too seriously.  Will Smith and Ellen are both Type 1s, so this episode of Ellen was full of smiles! :)

Teeth

Last night I dreamt that my teeth were horrible. My front teeth were loose and one of my canines was green, chipped and had a huge cavity. Most of my other teeth were yellow or brown. In my dream, Lance's teeth had the same problem.

I'm a teeth person. I've always been attracted to people with nice, white, straight teeth. My teeth are not straight, especially on the bottom, and I've been really self conscious about it lately. I want braces! I used to bleach my teeth every couple of months using Crest Whitestrips and I haven't done it in a while. I think it's time.

Since having Lily, my oral hygiene has decreased drastically. I blame it on working at night. I go to bed really late then wake up when Lily wakes up. Until recently, I would hop out of bed as soon as she was awake and start the day. I'm trying to be better about starting my day in prayer, alone, and then another prayer with her.

Now I need to work brushing my teeth into the morning routine. *embarrassed face*

Cuter With Time

Lily helping Daddy make a sandwich

Lily is a good helper.

She likes to help me load the dishwasher by taking out the silverware from the silverware basket one by one.

She likes to help me do laundry by taking items out of the folded laundry baskets and throwing them around the room.  Then later she will "put on" each item and crawl around with four or five items of clothing wrapped around her neck.

She's walking more and more, but crawling is still her preferred way to get around.

She loves to drink from a cup, or from a straw, unless it's bedtime.  If it's bedtime, it must be a bottle.

Today she went to the store with Daddy, so I got some kisses before she left.  I asked for a kiss from her, which usually involves her sitting really still waiting for me to kiss her.  Then I got a kiss from Daddy, who was holding Lily at the time.  Then Lily pushed mine and Lance's faces together to make us kiss again. And again. And again.  It made me laugh!  She is so cute.

Some Pictures From the Last Month

On the airplane to Denver. Lily was really good. We gave her lots of sugar.

This was at our hotel in Denver. It was a snowy day and we weren't able to go to the baseball game that we went to Denver for in the first place. Poor Lance, his birthday trip was ruined. I think we still had fun, though.

This was taken at dinner our first night in Denver. I can't remember where we ate...

A picture of my "warm" hair. It looks less orange now that I've been washing it with blue violet shampoo.
I took this picture while doing an experiment with some primer. If anyone is interested, I'll share the deets. :)
My sweet Lily is so fun.

She likes to climb into baskets.

This was taken on Mother's Day. I'm very lucky to have them.

I Would, But

But. I hate "buts." Excuses. Fact is, if you want to do something, any reason you give for not doing so is an excuse.

I don't want to be on Facebook anymore. My excuse for keeping it is that I'm afraid I'll miss out on important things if I don't have one.

My birthday was a month ago. I received several Facebook messages of well wishes and such. It was thoughtful. But, from some people, I was disappointed to receive a Facebook message instead of a phone call. You remember those? Where you hear the other person's voice?

I think it's unfortunate that people who are important to me, wished me a happy birthday the same way as that one girl who I sat by in that one class my sophomore year of high school who I wouldn't even remember were it not for Facebook.

I promised myself, no matter how much I hate the phone, if it's your birthday and I love you, I will call you.

So here I am, wishing I had the guts to get off Facebook to force more meaningful contact with people, but afraid of not having any contact.

Cafe Rio

My siblings are coming over on Sunday. I hope it's fun for them. I always worry that my house is the most boring. I do enjoy having them over, and while I'm not the best at entertaining, I do my best to make sure the food is superb.

Sunday is Cinco de Mayo, known in English as May 5. It's some kind of holiday where a lot of people in Mexican countries get drunk and do fireworks, much like our Independence Day.

We aren't getting drunk or doing fireworks, however, we are having Americanized Mexican food to celebrate the Mexicans in America! (lol) Cafe Rio pork, rice, beans and creamy tomatillo dressing. Tortillas and other toppings will be available, so everyone can make whatever type of dish they want.

I have a secret. Everyone knows Cafe Rio copycat recipes, right? Well, Favorite Family Recipes has the pork pretty close. My secret is that their dressing and rice are way off.

I've never tried their version of the beans.

I use this recipe for the Creamy Tomatillo dressing. For the hot sauce, I don't use the recommended Tobasco. Instead, I use Chili Lime Cholula, and I also add a touch of cayenne. This recipe gets much creamier than Favorite Family's. Last time I made this version, I brought home some dressing from Cafe Rio and tasted them side by side. I can proudly and confidently say they are identical.

Lime rice... I haven't found a recipe that I like. My mom's tastes really good, but it's super green. So, I make up my own version that is different every time I make it. At Cafe Rio, I've seen them fold in the medium enchilada sauce into the rice when they refill the pan, so there's somewhere to start. The basic idea is that I use the leftover salsa verde from what I used in the dressing, and I mix it with sugar and chicken stock. I'll toast my rice with butter, green onion, and garlic, and when it's toasty, I'll add the salsa verde liquids, and cook the rice in that. It's yummy! But I can't say it's like Cafe Rio's.

I don't get beans at Cafe Rio; they make my tostada mushy and take away from the flavors of the sweet pork, savory rice, and zesty, tangy dressing. But, my brothers like black beans, so I'll be making them for Sunday.

Oh, by the way, If you're wondering, I failed at being pescatarian. I missed steak too much. And I missed Cafe Rio pork too much.

Or you could say I got lazy and careless.

And I read in D&C about preaching to the Shakers who didn't eat meat, and they told them they shouldn't tell people not to eat meat. (D&C 49:18-19) So, I won't tell you not to eat meat. But I will tell you that I believe in eating meat sparingly, which means, I go without meat for days at a time. Pretty much the opposite of "Meatless Mondays."
